When the classic Wellington wind and rain come out to play, take shelter in Te Papa for a few hours to explore the art, history, and culture of New Zealand in an interactive and fun way! Take the cable car from the CBD up to the top of the Botanical Gardens for amazing views of the city to see! Once at the top of the gardens, stroll around the gardens following the tracks and walkways. View the art and plants in the indoor glasshouses, you may even spot some native birds.
Wander through Cuba Street and the nearby alley ways; Hannahs Laneway, Ghuznee Street and Leeds street on the way down to grab a takeaway coffee as you head to the waterfront. Enjoy the talented buskers and see if you can spot any sea life.
Grab a bite to eat at one of Wellington’s markets! If Windy Wellington is living up to its name, hide away indoors at Capital Market. Otherwise experience the community feel the city brings at the outdoor night markets near Cuba Street on a Friday and Saturday. Sunday morning brings the Harbourside Market to the waterfront, check it out for a tasty brunch! All markets include a large range of food stalls to try with both local and international cuisine.
Head to Wellington Zoo this Autumn and say hello to a wide range of animals, from cheetah’s to chimpanzee’s to chickens! Bring comfortable shoes, and a picnic – although food is available there! The Zoo offers a range of different options for your visit such as a behind the scenes visit, close encounter or a walk through at your own pace.
Karori – a 20-minute bus ride from the hotel Explore Wellington’s native wildlife reserve filled with birds, insects, and Tuataras. An easy walk for the whole family with several different tracks to suit.
